Vape Flavours Guide: How to Choose the Right One

Flavour is the reason most people stay with a device, and the reason most people switch. Two vapers can use the same hardware and the same nicotine strength and still have completely different experiences, simply because one of them found the aroma they actually enjoy and the other settled for something close to it.
Modern disposables offer hundreds of aromas, which makes choosing harder rather than easier. This guide walks through the main flavour families, explains what the words on the packaging really mean, and gives you a practical way to narrow hundreds of options down to the two or three worth trying first.
Why flavour matters so much
Four things shape what you taste when you vape: the type of device, the coil technology inside it, the e-liquid blend, and the aroma itself. For most vapers the aroma is the deciding factor, which is why it deserves more thought than the colour of the casing.
Get the aroma right and an ordinary device feels satisfying every time you pick it up. Get it wrong and even an expensive one ends up in a drawer, half used. The good news is that finding the right one takes a little method rather than a lot of money.
Fruit flavours
Fruit aromas have been the most requested category for years and they are usually the easiest place to start. The popular choices are:
- Mango,
- Peach,
- Watermelon,
- Blueberry,
- Strawberry,
- Grape,
- Apple.
Most people describe fruit aromas as fresh, light and easy to vape through a whole day. There is a real spread inside the family, though. Watermelon and Peach tend to be soft and juicy, Blueberry and Grape are deeper and a little darker, Strawberry is sweet and immediately familiar, and Apple finishes crisper than the rest.
If you are moving from cigarettes, a fruit aroma is often the easiest transition, because the taste is unmistakable and does not pretend to be tobacco.
Ice flavours, and why ice feels cooling
The word Ice on a product listing does not mean the fruit has been frozen. It means a cooling agent has been added to the blend.
Cooling additives of the menthol family act on the cold-sensitive nerve endings in your mouth and throat, the same ones that respond to mint or to cold air. The vapour leaving the coil is warm, but your nervous system reads it as cool. That is why Watermelon Ice tastes like cold watermelon rather than minty watermelon: the fruit note stays in front and the cooling sits underneath it, holding the finish clean.
Popular examples include:
- Watermelon Ice,
- Peach Ice,
- Blueberry Ice,
- Grape Ice.
Ice aromas sell best in the warmer months, when a cooling finish is simply more refreshing, but plenty of vapers use them all year. If you have never tried one, order a single device before committing to a pack: the cooling level varies a lot between blends, and what feels refreshing to one person can feel overwhelming to another.
Tropical flavours
If you like exotic fruit, tropical blends are usually where the intensity is. The familiar names are Mango Peach Watermelon, Strawberry Mango, Pineapple Mix and Tropical Fruits.
These aromas are built from several fruits at once, so they tend to be richer and more layered than a single-note flavour. Mango Peach Watermelon is the classic three-fruit blend: sweet mango in front, softer peach in the middle, watermelon keeping the finish light. Pineapple Mix adds a sharper edge, which suits vapers who find pure fruit aromas a little too sweet after a few days.
Berry blends
Berry aromas have more character than most single fruits, and they are usually the first step for anyone who finds simple fruit flavours flat. Popular combinations include Blueberry Raspberry, Mixed Berries and Strawberry Blueberry.
The appeal is balance. Berries bring sweetness and a slightly sharp, tart note at the same time, and the two keep each other in check. That makes a berry blend easier to vape all day than a purely sweet aroma, which can become cloying by the evening.
Drink-inspired flavours
Drink-inspired aromas have grown quickly over the past few years, and they are noticeably different from fruit flavours. The common ones are Energy Drink, Cola, Lemon Soda and Tropical Cocktail.
Where a fruit aroma is round and soft, a drink aroma usually has a sharper, almost fizzy edge, often with a citrus lift. Cola and Lemon Soda are the most familiar references; Energy Drink is the one people either take to immediately or avoid altogether; Tropical Cocktail sits between the drink and tropical families and works well as a change of pace.
Exclusive blends: Love 66
Some aromas are house recipes rather than single fruits, and Love 66 is the best-known example. It is usually described as a combination of watermelon, passion fruit and mint.
The result is balanced and fresh rather than heavy: the watermelon gives it body, the passion fruit adds a sharp tropical lift, and the mint keeps the finish clean without turning the whole thing into a menthol vape. Love 66 has been one of the most popular blended aromas for years, and it is a good choice if you want something more interesting than a single fruit without going as far as a drink flavour.
Which flavours suit beginners best
There is no universal answer, because taste is personal. That said, new vapers most often settle on one of these four:
- Watermelon Ice: easy to recognise, fresh and clean.
- Peach Ice: soft, fruity and not too sharp.
- Strawberry Mango: sweeter, with a more exotic profile.
- Blueberry Ice: one of the most popular modern aromas.
Notice that three of the four include a cooling note. Beginners often find that a little cooling makes an aroma feel cleaner and less heavy, which helps in the first weeks when everything is new.
Flavour families at a glance
The table below summarises the families, who they tend to suit and the names you will see most often.
| Flavour family | Typical character | Who tends to like it | Example names |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fruit | Fresh, light, easy to vape all day | New vapers and anyone who wants a simple, familiar taste | Mango, Peach, Watermelon, Blueberry, Strawberry, Grape, Apple |
| Ice | Fruit or drink notes with a cooling finish | Vapers who want a cleaner, sharper sensation, especially in warm weather | Watermelon Ice, Peach Ice, Blueberry Ice, Grape Ice |
| Tropical | Rich and layered, several fruits at once | Vapers who find single-fruit aromas too simple | Mango Peach Watermelon, Strawberry Mango, Pineapple Mix, Tropical Fruits |
| Berry | Sweet and slightly tart at the same time | Vapers who want more depth than a single fruit gives | Blueberry Raspberry, Mixed Berries, Strawberry Blueberry |
| Drink-inspired | Sharper and often citrus-led, with a fizzy edge | Vapers who want something clearly different from fruit | Energy Drink, Cola, Lemon Soda, Tropical Cocktail |
| Exclusive blends | Multi-note house recipes, balanced and fresh | Vapers looking for a signature aroma they will not find everywhere | Love 66 |
Why the same flavour tastes different in two devices
If you have ever loved an aroma in one device and found it flat in another, you are not imagining it. Four things change what you taste:
- Coil technology. Mesh and dual mesh systems heat the liquid across a wider surface, which can draw more detail out of a layered aroma than a small wire coil does.
- Vapour volume. A device that produces more vapour per puff delivers more aroma per puff, so the same blend can taste stronger or weaker.
- Draw style. A tight mouth-to-lung draw and a loose direct-to-lung draw mix the vapour with different amounts of air, and air dilutes aroma.
- How long the device has been in use. A coil that has been worked hard for weeks does not taste the same as a fresh one, which is why the last part of a large device can seem milder than the start.
We cover the coil side of this in more detail in our guide to dual mesh technology, and the capacity side in our explainer on what 60000, 100000 or 200000 puffs actually mean.
How to find your flavour
Start with aromas you already know
Most people do best by beginning with fruit they already eat: watermelon, mango, grape, blueberry. You know how those taste, so you can tell immediately whether the vape version is close, and you spend your money on something you have a fair chance of enjoying.
Try more than one category
Do not stay inside a single family. One berry blend and one drink flavour will tell you more about your taste than three fruit aromas in a row, because they sit in different parts of the range: soft, sharp, sweet, cooling.
Take the season into account
Ice aromas and light fruit flavours are more popular in summer, when a cooling finish feels right. In winter, many vapers move to sweeter and heavier aromas that suit the colder months better. There is no rule here, only a pattern worth knowing.
Give an aroma more than one puff
A brand-new device can taste slightly different for the first few puffs while the wick becomes fully saturated. Judge an aroma after ten or fifteen puffs rather than one, and judge it again the next morning before you decide it is not for you.
How to describe a flavour when you ask for a recommendation
Something fruity gives a shop nothing to work with. A useful request contains four pieces of information:
- One or two aromas you already like, by name.
- Whether you want cooling or not.
- Whether you want sweet or sharp.
- What you did not like last time.
For example: “I like Watermelon Ice, but I want something less sweet and with less cooling.” That single sentence narrows a range of hundreds down to a handful. Send it to us through our contact page and we will suggest two or three aromas instead of thirty.
How to avoid flavour fatigue
Flavour fatigue is not a fault in your device. Your sense of smell simply stops reporting a constant stimulus as strongly after a few days, which is why an aroma that tasted vivid on Monday can feel muted by Friday. Practical ways round it:
- Rotate two aromas instead of vaping one for weeks. Keeping a second device or a second flavour on the go is the simplest fix there is.
- Change family, not just name. Moving from Watermelon Ice to Watermelon changes very little; moving to a berry or drink aroma resets your palate far more effectively.
- Drink water. A dry mouth mutes aroma, and vaping dries the mouth, so the two reinforce each other.
- Store your devices and e-liquid sensibly, away from direct sunlight and heat, because warmth degrades aroma over time.
- Take a break from heavy cooling if everything starts to taste the same. Cooling agents are strong, and they can flatten the subtler notes behind them.
The most popular flavours this year
These are the aromas that come up again and again in orders and enquiries right now:
- Watermelon Ice,
- Blueberry Ice,
- Strawberry Mango,
- Peach Ice,
- Blueberry Raspberry,
- Love 66,
- Energy Drink,
- Grape Ice.
You will find most of them across modern disposable ranges, and the list shifts as new blends arrive. Treat it as a snapshot of what is selling rather than a rule about what you should like.
